A few years ago, I got the idea that one day I’d like to have my artwork on some random family’s walls. My kids’ school had just conducted a fundraiser auction and a few paintings there sold for pretty decent sums of money. I figured I had a year until the next fundraiser to come up with a good painting.
Well…I think I did come up with a good painting. I have no formal training, but I felt it reflected how I felt at that time. Melancholy, a bit isolated, a bit depressed, but also with a level of warmth and hope. I made a lot of progress the first few months.
And then, life got in the way. Three years later, it *looks* finished but I feel it still needs a few things. Time to finish it and start something new.
What to do with it once it’s finished? I have no idea. I have no real attachment to it. Maybe I’ll donate it to Goodwill and someone will buy it and it will be on their wall and 20 years from now people will wonder, “Who was the painter?”
Untitled, oil on canvas.
